Work Log - 2026-10-26
🎯 Focus for Today¶
Maintenance sweep on the public holiday. First item: pull upstream project updates into the monorepos, starting with octodns.
✅ What Got Done¶
- Branch
bau/update-upstreams-26Oct26created here for the submodule pointer bumps. - Patch-level version tick 0.6.1 → 0.6.2 in
pyproject.toml. Working convention: a branch with a minor-looking change like a new public worklog entry gets a patch bump when it ships to the site.
octodns — 94bc80eb → f4e28705¶
Fast-forward pull from the john-opsdevnz fork (193 objects, 13 local branches updated). High-level overview:
- New merge subsystem —
octodns/merge/(base + values modules) with a newmergersconfig concept: merging behavior is now configurable rather than implicit, with schema additions inschema/config.py. - Manager changes — extra handling in
manager.pyto support the merge layer. - Record updates — caa, srv, svcb, uri validators/behavior touched; uri record had a larger rework.
- Zone handling — changes in
zone/base.py. - Housekeeping: AGENTS.md updated upstream (~30 lines), CI matrix tweak, requirements refresh, changelog fragments, and a chunk of new tests (merge values, mergers config, records).
Worth a closer look before our zone configs rely on how octodns merging
behaves upstream. No action needed for our metaname provider work yet.
octodns-template — d92b50b → 16f0db3¶
Small fast-forward pull. Two files:
- One new changelog fragment under
.changelog/ requirements.txtrefresh (62 lines churned) — dependency pin updates
SDD-Template / SRS-Template¶
Checked — already up to date, no changes. These don't move very often.
onepassword-sdk-python — f301751 → 5de999b¶
Small fast-forward pull, 4 commits, effectively a point release:
- SDK version bump —
version.py+build_number.pyupdated - Bundled core libraries refreshed —
libop_uniffi_core.sofor both aarch64 and x86_64 swapped for new builds (~19MB binaries, minor size delta) - Release notes tidied (net -11 lines)
No Python API surface changes visible in the diff — our op-opsdevnz
1Password secret-resolution usage should be unaffected, though a smoke
test on next real use would be wise.
packaging.python.org — 11842f4c → d1ad4ad3¶
Bigger pull, 34 commits, docs/reference updates:
dependency-specifiersspec page — the most substantive change (~21 lines churned): wording/precision updates to the dependency specifier specificationwell-known-project-urls— additions (~3 lines)- New section in the GitHub Actions publish-then-workflow guide
- Housekeeping: pre-commit config bump, CI workflow tweak, small fixes across discussions pages
Reference-only repo (no runtime dependency), so this is knowledge currency, not a build risk.
